Formula 1 Grand Prix...26th September 2010 - Motorsport main menu - 0845 003 2213 Since the first race in 2008, when the logistics of running a street race in the dark were something of a mystery to most of us, the annual September visit to the bustling island of Singapore is a welcome fixture on the F1 calendar. A long weekend here allows you to watch as much on-track action as you wish, hunt for bargains in the many malls and markets and sample the varied cuisines on offer in restaurants across the island. For such a small place there’s a surprising amount to see and do. Take the cable car to Sentosa Island for a few hours on the beach, stroll through the beautiful orchid gardens, enjoy a night safari at the zoo and a treetop walk above the rainforest. Downtown you can stroll along the waterfront, take a riverboat ride and shop in Chinatown or Little India. Getting around is easy too. Much of Singapore you can explore on foot. Alternatively, you can use the efficient local transport systems or book guided tours at the hotel’s front desk. In 2009 the race was dominated by the resurgent McLaren of Lewis Hamilton. Fresh from a disappointing last lap retirement in Monza no effort was spared to get Lewis on pole position and he’s a tough act to follow. Like all street circuits Singapore demands full concentration. Rosberg, Vettel and Webber were all strong but it was Glock and Alonso who joined Hamilton on the podium. How will Schumacher and the new crop of drivers manage under the lights? It will be an interesting race for sure. 4 nights in Singapore...
