The Budapest race in 2007 was a rare occurrence in the fact that it had a British winner for the second year in a row! After Jenson Button’s impressive win in 2006, Lewis Hamilton claimed victory, after an inspiring and controlled race, keeping Kimi Raikkonen at bay. A lot of speculation focused on the race before it even started, as relations between Hamilton and Alonso began to show strain. Alonso had been demoted five grid places for holding up Hamilton in qualifying. The final result of Hamilton’s victory and Alonso’s fourth place, saw Hamilton’s lead stretch to 7 points ahead of his teammate. Budapest is a perfect city for a weekend break – cultural heritage, imposing architecture, markets and chic shops. For the evenings the bars and restaurants are lively. Hungarian cuisine is hearty and so are the wines. The wide Danube cuts through the city and divides Buda from Pest. Our hotel is in Pest, the downtown and commercial centre. On the opposite bank visit the hilltop district around the Fishermen’s Bastion for amazing views over the city. With what is proving to be a successful circuit for the British drivers, and with good accessibility from the UK, Budapest is sure to be a favourite race for the British fans in 2008.
