Bahrain
Formula 1 Grand Prix...
22nd
April 2012 - Motorsport main menu
Introduction...
A small island state located near the western shores of the Persian
Gulf, full of authentic Arab heritage and reputation as a modern country. With a
mixture of people from different cultures and nationalities, Bahrain is a
friendly place to visit that has continued to attract tourists from around the
world each year.
Bahrain was home to the first Arabian F1 Grand Prix back in 2004 at the
World-class Bahrain International Circuit where no visit will disappoint. There
are various places to eat and shops where you can purchase merchandise and
souvenirs.
As well as being a prime location for an exciting F1 race, Bahrain has plenty
more to offer. If you're into history and enjoy learning about different
cultures then Bahrain will definitely be a favourite. You can choose to take
some time out in one of the gardens of Manama or visit one of their many
historical places such as Bar Bar Temple or Arad Fort, Bahrain's most imperative
fortified castle.
If history isn't your strong point then perhaps a boat ride to one of the
Islands is more your thing; Hawer Islands are 45 minutes away from the mainland
and offer complete tranquillity with crystal clear waters, white sandy beaches
and a handful of watersports to choose from.
Back on the mainland you will come across traditional souqs where you can barter
for local crafts and indulge in a typical Bahraini dish such as muhammar, a
sweet rice dish served with dates. The busy side streets are lined with Arabic
coffee houses where you can relax, unwind and watch the world go by.

Race tickets...
The Bahrain International circuit is in the heart of the desert and
was created by the same architect who designed Sepang Circuit in Malaysia. The
2012 F1 race takes place over 49 laps on a 6.3 kilometre track and offers
stunning views for as far as the eye can see. The Grand Prix track consists of
many straight lines followed by 'slow turns', giving drivers a great opportunity
for overtaking before firmly pressing on those brakes!
