Introduction...

The opening race of 2008 in Melbourne was a good indicator for the season to come.  Hamilton led from pole position thereby avoiding the first lap chaos involving five cars including local hero Mark Webber.   The BMW Sauber of Kubica was fast in qualifying and from second on the grid he pushed Hamilton for much of the race. Both Ferraris retired but not before a coming together for Massa and a couple of trips into the gravel for Raikkonen and the safety car was deployed on three occasions. Such was the rate of attrition that only seven cars finished the race.

In 2009 the race will start at a very civilised 5pm local time.  It’s the perfect excuse  to party late on Saturday in the many bars and restaurants downtown and along the Yarra River and enjoy a lazy Sunday morning before making your way to Albert Park for the day’s events.  Party and sport is what Melbourne does best although there’s no shortage of sights to see in and around the city.  The free hop on, hop off city circle tram is an excellent way to get around, you can visit the hallowed Melbourne Cricket Ground, dive with sharks at the Aquarium or take excursions to visit the goldfields, wineries and the world’s smallest penguins on Philip Island.

There’s no doubt that Melbourne is a great place for a race.  Spectator facilities are excellent and getting there is easy from the city centre by the non-stop free tram service.  At the track there are restaurants, exhibits, celebrity races, V8 supercars and historic car demonstrations.   Everywhere there are giant screens and, when the race is over you are welcome to walk the track!

Melbourne at nightYou can simply reserve your hotel in Melbourne and race tickets with us if you wish.  Alternatively we can reserve your flights to and from Australia together with any extended stay arrangements you request.  The Outback, the Rainforest, the Barrier Reef are all accessible from Melbourne.  You might want to visit Tasmania  – hire a car and cross overnight on the ferry and enjoy a few days exploring the stunning scenery and unique wildlife on the island.

As the next race is in Malaysia on 5 April why not spend a couple of days in Sydney and then join us in Kuala Lumpur for another weekend of racing action!

Once you are in Australia the possibilities are endless – just tell us where you want to go and we will arrange it for you.

Tailor Made Holidays...

Australia is a magical land of endless possibilities. Whether you want to visit the cities, the rainforest, the Great Barrier Reef or Ayers Rock and the Outback we can arrange it for you reserving your flights, hotels and excursions.

Between races you can spend a few days in Sydney, on the Reef, in Borneo, Penang or Langkawi. The choices are endless! Why not use our expertise to turn your Grand Prix weekend into the holiday of a lifetime? Just give us a call- our number is at the bottom of every page.
